Our learning model is designed to ignite a love for learning — blending foundational skills with innovative teaching methods, in a warm, personalized environment.
At The Meraki School, we use a hybrid model with three in-person school days each week (Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays), complemented by office hours on Wednesdays for tutoring support. This structure offers flexibility while ensuring students stay engaged and receive the personalized help they need to thrive.
Students are grouped into K-2 and 3-5 grade bands, promoting peer learning. Younger students benefit from the guidance of older peers, while older students solidify their understanding by teaching and mentoring. This peer-driven model encourages mastery of concepts and strengthens both academic skills and leadership abilities.

Overview of Curricula
At The Meraki School, our language arts curriculum is intentionally designed to develop confident readers, articulate writers, and thoughtful communicators through structured, evidence-based instruction rooted in the science of reading. Foundational reading and decoding skills for our developing readers are taught using the University of Florida Literacy Institute (UFLI) program. This highly respected curriculum provides systematic, explicit phonics instruction that teaches students how to decode words accurately and fluently. Through carefully sequenced lessons and multi-sensory practice, students develop automaticity in reading while building the essential foundation necessary for lifelong literacy. Grammar instruction is taught explicitly through Simply Grammar, which develops students’ understanding of sentence structure, parts of speech, and the mechanics of written language. This direct instruction enables students to write with increasing clarity, sophistication, and precision as they progress through each grade level.
Spelling instruction is thoughtfully differentiated based on each student’s stage of reading development. Students who are still mastering foundational decoding use Simply Spelling, which reinforces phonics patterns and strengthens the connection between reading and writing. As students advance, they transition to Abeka spelling, which introduces more complex spelling patterns, multisyllabic words, and advanced vocabulary to ensure continued growth and appropriate academic challenge. Reading comprehension and literary analysis are developed through rich, knowledge-building units from Fishtank Learning. These carefully sequenced lessons expose students to high-quality literature and informational texts while strengthening comprehension, expanding vocabulary, and cultivating critical thinking. Students learn to analyze texts deeply, make meaningful connections, and express their ideas clearly both in discussion and in writing.
At The Meraki School, we use Math-U-See, a mastery-based mathematics curriculum designed to develop deep conceptual understanding alongside procedural fluency. Math-U-See emphasizes hands-on, visual learning through the use of manipulatives, allowing students to see and understand mathematical concepts in a concrete way before transitioning to abstract thinking. Rather than rushing through topics, students develop true mastery of each concept, building confidence and long-term retention.
This structured, sequential approach ensures students develop strong number sense, problem-solving abilities, and mathematical reasoning. By prioritizing depth over speed, students gainboth competence and confidence, preparing them for increasingly advanced mathematical thinking.
Studies Weekly delivers a student- centered, comprehensive social studies curriculum. Organized thematically, this program covers the essential strands of civics and government, geography, economics, and history, helping students make meaningful connections across disciplines.
Studies Weekly’s engaging, periodical format and robust online platform create an interactive learning experience that is both hands-on and accessible. This curriculum spirals and scaffolds key concepts, allowing students to build on prior knowledge and deepen their understanding over time. Integrated with ELA and aligned with academic standards, Studies Weekly provides a research-based approach to social studies that fosters critical thinking and real-world connections, setting the stage for informed and engaged citizenship.
The Meraki School employs the FOSS (Full Option Science System) curriculum to cultivate a hands-on, inquiry-driven approach to science. FOSS has long been grounded in the philosophy behind the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), even before these standards were formally defined. This program emphasizes practices, crosscutting concepts, and disciplinary core ideas (DCIs) to engage students in an immersive, comprehensive exploration of scientific concepts.
With FOSS, students participate in interactive investigations that promote critical thinking, problem-solving, and a deeper understanding of the natural world. By fostering curiosity and encouraging scientific inquiry, this curriculum inspires students to become active, knowledgeable learners ready to explore and make sense of the world around them.
